The impact of the Sino-Soviet conflict in the 1960s upon their boundary dispute and the larger implications for China’s regional security concerns are significant. Gorbachev’s latter 1980s reforms set the stage for improvement in Sino-Soviet relations. As relations returned to normal, Russia and China were able to overcome years of disagreement and conclude a boundary treaty.
